Yesterday, March 3, 2010, international and local dignitaries as well as stakeholders of the Philippine telecentre movement witnessed the launch and turnover of the telecentre.org program from Canada’s International Development Research Centre (IDRC) to the telecentre.org Foundation based in the Philippines.

Prof. Braam Van De Vyver from Monash University, South Africa Campus, who is doing a comparison study between the telecenters in South Africa and Sichuan Province of China, visited Thailand in order to understand and familiarize himself with the telecenter context in the country, because of the advances made by the telecenter movements in Thailand.

Children’s Acquired love for ICT and the Reduced Teacher’s Burden: Case of Bangpreang Telecenter

Bangpreang telecenter is located at Kotharam Primary School; the school has 80 students and 3 teachers who also happen to be the telecenter operators as well. Since it is a telecenter-based school, active teaching and learning was observed, with high motivation among the students, to learn the different subjects and new technologies.

Wat Sakate Telecenter: Empowering the Youth

Wat Sakate telecenter is a youth based telecenter established inside a temple, located at a strategic location in Kaset Wisai district, near the fresh food market. The idea of this telecenter was based on the personal initiative of the temple Abbot (Phra Athikain Wchience Phasuko), he started with his own personal funds in July 2004, to open and support and ICT center inside the temple.

Telecenters be can the last mile to boost the literacy rate

Many communities have so far realized the potentials of ICT to a large extent how economic development depends on the adoption and use of information technology. Unfortunately, there are a large majority of populations living in rural and remote areas who did not grasp the concept that ICT makes possible economic recovery and survival. The reason for the limited of or no understanding among the above-mentioned populations is because of lack of access to the information and communication technology, lack of basic knowledge or illiteracy among the rural and urban poor dwellers, and most of all, poverty.
