จจุบันเทคโนโลยีสารสนเทศนับว่ามีความสำคัญและมีความก้าวหน้าอย่างมาก ดังจะเห็นได้จากการติดต่อสื่อสารบนโลกออนไลน์ การซื้อขายสินค้าออนไลน์ การนำเทคโนโลยีสารสนเทศมาใช้ให้เกิดประโยชน์ต่อนักเรียน โรงเรียนและชุมชน จึงเป็นช่องทางหนึ่งในการยกระดับสินค้าโอทอปและยังเป็นการสร้างรายได้อีกช่องทางหนึ่ง ดังเช่น โครงการส่งเสริมการใช้ไอซีทีสร้างรายได้ในกลุ่มโรงเรียน ทสรช. ภายใต้มูลนิธิเทคโนโลยีสารสนเทศตามพระราชดำริสมเด็จพระเทพรัตนราชสุดาฯ สยามบรมราชกุมารี ได้จัดกิจกรรม SMART SCHOOLS OUTLET: LOCAL TO GLOBAL เตรียมเยาวชนสู่การสร้างธุรกิจในยุคเศรษฐกิจดิจิทัล ขึ้นในการประชุมวิชาการ สวทช. ครั้งที่ 14 (NAC2018) ระหว่างวันที่ 9-13 มีนาคม พ.ศ.2561 ณ อุทยานวิทยาศาสตร์ประเทศไทย จ.ปทุมธานี
