ANNOUNCEMENT
Can Tho University, Arizona State University and the Institute for Science and Technology Innovation are pleased to announce the international scientific conference on “STEM Higher Education for Mekong Delta Development” to be held in Can Tho University, Can Tho, Vietnam, on November 07, 2017.
BACKGROUND TO CONFERENCE
On February 12, 2014, the Prime Minister approved Decision No. 245/QD-TTg on the master plan for socio-economic development of the Mekong Delta key economic region up to 2020 with orientation to 2030. In particular, rapid development of human resources, especially high quality human resources, was raising the quality of education and training; to closely associate human resource development in science and technology.
Skilled human resources in the Mekong Delta are in high-demand by local employers in the sub-region but in short supply. The low level of skilled human resources in the Mekong Delta of Vietnam compared to ASEAN counterparts is an area for concern since these nations will not be able to truly reap the benefits of ASEAN integration without job-relevant education and training assistance in key professions.
According to the trend of many countries in the world, science, technology, and innovation play an important role in improving labour productivity. Thus, skilled workers in Mekong Delta needed priorities in science, technology, engineering, mathematics to promoting the development of skilled human resources in this region.
Facing the need of skilled labour to meets the requirement of the Mekong Delta development, the aim of this workshop is to raise understanding of role of STEM education and quality assurance of STEM higher education in Mekong Delta of Vietnam; build a research network between lecturers, management staff of education, the transfer learners, cooperate to study about problems in making quality labour for Mekong Delta of Vietnam.
CALL FOR ABSTRACTS
Who interested in presenting at the workshop will need to submit a 200-300 word abstract via email to isatvietnam@gmail.com
Abstracts must be submitted using the Abstract Template
In addition, authors are required to provide:
- Their full contact details, and
- The session that their short paper relates to (A, B, or C overleaf).
A notification of acceptance for presentation at the conference will be sent to the author by email. Upon receipt of notification, authors will be asked to submit a written paper to be published in the conference proceedings. Papers will be reviewed and edited by the Review Committee.

- The role and importance of STEM training for Mekong Delta development;
- STEM curriculum development in higher education;
- Quality Assurance of STEM programs in Vietnam higher education;
- Online STEM programs;
- Research, Innovation policies in STEM programs;
- Enhancing employability of graduates in STEM programs;
- Promote effective university industry partnerships to respond to the growth of the Mekong Delta;
- Other issues concerning of the training of quality human resources in the Mekong Delta.
